We made it to Kansas!

We arrived on June 20th at 9 am, exactly 48hours after we left North Dakota. We have now been here almost a month, and it has been a hectic month. But so far, the seven of us say we like Kansas. We for sure like our neighbors, and the beautiful area we picked to live. I will write a blog post about our long trip another day. That trip deserves its very own blog post.

However, there are a few things we dislike; the humidity is rough, but we come in and take breaks when needed. We have seed ticks, they call them, and since there have not been birds on the property, we believe they are everywhere. We are working on getting rid of them. We also added being allergic to wasps to Henry's list, which was very scary. Over 400 hens arrived the other day, but these hens are not used to being out on pasture. An egg production facility sells its over 12-month-old hens at a discount to bring in new, younger hens. We thought it would be an excellent way for us to get some bug eaters, as well as eggs. We had over 200 eggs in the first 24 hours they were here. McCormick is excited to sell some eggs this Saturday at the farmers' market. What have we added to the new farm that we didn't already have? 14goats, 2 in milk, two more coming next week. Two A2A2 in milk jersey cows, bred for March 2026. Over 500 birds, including four Rheas, turkeys, young pullets, and the laying hens we got delivered. I also bought two soaping business supplies, so I have a lot of supplies to keep me busy for a very long time. One was local and a smaller amount, so it was just one van load, but the other is from North Dakota, so it's a considerable load coming down soon with way more of our stuff. Trying to get into the groove of living in a new area with not all of our belongings has been a bit challenging. With the intense heat we've been having, we've been having smaller meals, which is fine, but I miss baking, so I'm working on adding that back into our routine. The kids have been doing homeschooling during the hot part of the day and in the evening, when it gets dark so quickly. This is unlike North Dakota, where at this time of year, it is still light enough out to work until 11 after it has cooled off. Here, it is pitch black around 9 pm, so we find other things to work on inside. There are many new adventures here, and I'm meeting new people. Finding a church but missing many things about where we came from, like the store I had just opened and the people we were close with, not missing the fact that we don't have to wonder if we will see people we don't want to see around the corner at the store, or things like that. The kids have mentioned this many times; they feel better about many things that have happened in the last year. The repairing has begun for them, and it is very nice to see. I hope you all have a great day!
